Start from Logie Park (at the Eastern end of Seafield Place). Take the track that climbs upwards away from the town. At the top of the ridge there is a ‘T’ junction. Go left here – along a wider track that winds left and downwards past the ruins of Logie House – on your left. Here, the track narrows.

Continue down the edge of the field directly in front of you. Go through a metal gate on your right and take the path that leads you down to the sea.

Take care; this path is very uneven as it winds down one side of the gully.

At shore level, there is a ‘T’ junction. Turn right here and follow the path until you reach Sunnyside Beach, which is a wonderful picnic and bathing spot. Past the beach, and going east, the path rises steeply to the top of the cliffs. From here you will see the formidable ruins of Findlater Castle. There are very narrow paths – not much wider than sheep-tracks – leading down to the ruins, these should not be attempted by the unfit or foolhardy.  The ruins themselves are in a dangerous state of collapse.

To return to Cullen, simply retrace your steps or, if you wish to follow the shoreline, read instructions outlined in Walk 4.

Sturdy shoes are required for this walk. Particular care should be taken with children and dogs.

Should you wish to access the Castle by car, take the A98 South from Cullen, and in 2 miles (3.2km.), there is a brown-coloured sign for Findlater Castle on your left.

Follow the road until you reach the Car Park, which is in the disused farm of the Barnyards of Findlater. From here it is a short walk down to the site. Note the whitewashed ‘Doocot’ – or Dovecote – on your left. This may be visited.
