Through Cullen Viaduct

The view looking through Cullen Viaduct, at the bottom of Seafield Street, towards the beach and the Three Kings rock formation that stands on the beach. Cullen itself stands on the shores of the Moray Firth in northern Scotland, with beautiful sandy beaches all around. This is an iconic view of the village, as the main road passes underneath the old railway line and then turns sharp left to skirt around Seatown, the roofs and chimneys of which can just be seen below the Three Kings. It’s the view that suddenly opens up as you drive down the hill here towards Buckie and Fochabers!
The viaduct, consisting of several arches right along the length of Seatown, was built in 1884-6 and was necessitated by Seafield Estate’s refusal to allow the railway line to run further South – quite some work for a single-track railway! We benefit now, though, as it supports a lovely foot and cycle path right along this gorgeous bit of the coastline!
